Governor Corzine's proposed budget eliminates $1 million in state funding for the NJSBDC small business assistance program. Small businesses are vital to the strength of New Jersey's economy. They create new jobs, generate taxes and deliver valuable services.
If the funds are not restored by the Legislature, the NJSBDC will lose almost $1 million in additional federal funds since the program get a dollar for dollar match.
The elimination of funding will result in services being drastically cut and will undermine small business development and growth in New Jersey.
The NJSBDC and small business in New Jersey need your help.
Below is a sample letter you can send to the Senate and Assembly Budget Committee chairs, Legislative leadership and the Governor.

As a technology executive in New Jersey, I just recently learned that Governor Corzine intends to slash $1 million, eliminating the State's total investment in the NJ Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) network. This non-profit program has been serving businesses and has had a contract with the State for more than two decades. I stongly urge you to restore funding to this program.

After years of having a flat budget, the Legislature doubled funding for the NJSBDC program during the past few years. Eliminating the full amount of State funding for this program will result in the loss of federal funding also. Small business which relies on this program would see these quality services drastically cut and would undermine small business development and growth.

The NJSBDC network has 11 centers throughout the State and serves small businesses in all 21 counties. When a program like this helps business owners, jobs are saved and created. These experts provide counseling at no charge, pre-paid by tax dollars. It's one of the few programs in State Government where one can honestly say that tax dollars are wisely spent. In addition, the NJSBDC brings back to the State, federal dollars for small business assistance.

New Jersey cannot afford to take away funds from a program that returns more to the State than the actual cost. NJSBDC has helped businesses develop and grow and facilitates capital financing to enable business owners to expand operations. As a technology executive and New Jersey taxpayer, I urge you to restore funding to the NJSBDC.

Sincerely,
