New Jersey Innovation Institute Awarded Brownfield Coalition Contract

NEWARK, New Jersey, January 10, 2017 – The Brownfields Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) has awarded the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) a contract for the Planning and Coordination Services for the 2017 Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop. NJII’s Elizabeth Limbrick, project manager for policy and planning innovation for civil infrastructure and environment will organize the conference, working with BCONE to develop the theme, agenda, and speakers, and will coordinate the efforts of BCONE volunteers. The conference is designed to break new ground, and offer new ideas and new concepts on the topics of sustainability, collaboration and leverage, contamination, resiliency, brownfields, technology, and their impact on community revitalization. NJII will assist BCONE with gathering the great minds of sustainability from across the world to share ideas that will help to achieve this goal.

BCONE is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide education on the benefits of brownfield remediation and sustainable redevelopment and to work with member states and brownfield stakeholders to facilitate brownfield cleanups within those member states. BCONE members have extensive experience in the brownfield remediation and redevelopment process. Members include state regulatory agencies and brownfield practitioners in the fields of environmental remediation, land use consulting, real estate, law, land development and green jobs training programs. The latter supply well-trained, accredited and certified entry-level technicians for a variety of brownfield and green energy jobs.

“BCONE’s annual Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop exemplifies the educational mission of the Coalition. Now in its eighth year, the NSCW 2017 will be held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, March 15, 2017. This year’s theme is Driving Revitalization Sustainably: identifying sustainable goals and strategies for revitalizing their communities and brownfields. NJII is proud to be working with BCONE in planning this important event,” said Colette Santasieri, NJII’s director, policy and planning innovation for civil infrastructure and environment.
